What to do
To experience all the uniqueness of the village and the territory, including immersions in nature, taste and beauty.
Discover the surroundings
We are in Borghetto, surrounded in the Morainic Hills, on the banks of the Mincio River. Water is one of the main elements and the protagonist of many activities that you can experience in the area: sailing with the Mincio boatmen, fishing, relaxing in a thermal park, windsurfing and kitesurfing on the nearby Lake Garda. If you love outdoor activities, you can go riding or rent bicycles and follow the beautiful Mantua-Peschiera cycle path, which passes right through Borghetto, connecting Lombardy and Veneto. The Borgo and its surroundings delight you with the discovery of typical dishes and the excellent wine cellars of Morainic Hills and Garda. You can taste the “Tortellini di Valeggio” (also called “Nodo d’Amore” wich means “Love Knot”), strictly handmade according to the ancient recipe, or linger in the sweet pleasure of chocolate Tortellini.
In autumn
Let yourself be enchanted when nature sheds its summer colors and prepares for winter, by the leaves of the woods around the village, which fade from golden yellow, to red, to brown. In the morning, a light fog rises from the river and makes the atmosphere soft and muffled. The temperatures are still generous and you can have breakfast outdoors, listening to the sound of water and the rustle of trees. Autumn is the right time to experience the area calmly, to discover the time of harvest in the cellars and savor a nice plate of tortellini, along with seasonal delicacies in typical restaurants and trattorias.
In winter
With the cold comes the delicacy of the frost as well. In the morning it embroiders the landscape and you can enjoy the poetry of fireplaces, the magic of golden lights. In the heart of the village, next to the wooden bridge, is the giant sequoia of Borghetto (thirty meters high): during the Christmas period it is illuminated by six thousand light bulbs and dominates the valley very brightly. In addition to this unique show, we suggest you to experience the whole fairytale atmosphere of the village and browse the Christmas markets also in Verona and Lake Garda.
In spring
The days begin to get longer and the colors explode again in the nature around the village: a sight not to be missed along the streets of the village and on the wooden bridge, full of seasonal flowers. In addition to regenerating nature walks and aperitifs on the splendid terraces of cafes and bars, do not miss the opportunity to visit the Sigurtà Garden Park: between March and April a myriad of different qualities tulips bloom, whereas May is the irises and roses month.
If you like to enjoy a relaxing break, spring is also a great time to discover the many thermal parks in this area.
In summer
Between spring and summer, in June, the annual appointment with the “Feast of the Knot of Love” arrives. It’s the heart of local traditions: a very long table is placed for the entire length of the Visconti bridge, ready to accommodate a few hundred people. There are dishes to taste, many glasses of wine and “actors” with medieval costumes. In the warmer months, the Borgo is a small oasis of tranquility surrounded by water and nature, especially at sunset. You can book bicycle excursions to explore the surroundings on the cycle path, or experience picturesque horseback rides, or boat trips to Mantua or to the nearby Lake Garda.
